Oliver and Hadley's story is pretty swoony from the moment they meet-- but as soon as they lose each other in the airport they're thrown back into the real world, where they're both dealing with some pretty real problems. What did you think about the combination of sweet romance and family drama?
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight was different than other young adult or teen love stories because the two main characters dealt with issues such as divorce, infidelity in marriage, remarriage of a parent, and death. It also placed a larger emphasis on fate, and, therefore, Hadley meeting Oliver in the airport is “meant to be.” After a seven hour flight together, they are separated after their plane lands in London. Despite Hadley’s father’s wedding and Oliver’s family obligations, Hadley and Oliver meet three times over the course of one day in London. At the end of that one day, they have made the choice to be together.
I enjoyed reading this book, and would recommend this book to those who enjoy books involving fate, love stories, and family drama. The characters were likable, interesting, and well-developed personalities and quirks. It was very easy to be emotionally invested in Hadley and Oliver’s story, and I couldn’t stop reading it since I had to know how it ended. Now, I also want to read more books by Jennifer Smith, since I liked this one so much.
